Hechtel-Eksel is a rural municipality in the province of Limburg, created in 1977 through the merger of the villages of Hechtel and Eksel. Today, it has more than 13,000 residents and a typically residential character. Thanks to its combination of open space, nature and limited urbanisation, Hechtel-Eksel is known as a pleasant place to live, with a calm and high-quality living environment.
The challenge
Hechtel-Eksel local authority was looking for a partner for a high-performing, sustainable and user-friendly municipal website, with support after delivery. The new site had to align with the visual identity, be responsive and accessible, and be easy for non-technical editors to manage.
A secure and up-to-date CMS was important, as were compliance with GDPR, cookie legislation and WCAG 2.1 AA, plus extensibility with modules and integrations for services, news, activities, forms, search functionality, emergency notifications, redirects and statistics.
The website also had to connect with systems such as IPDC, the e-service desk, Mijn Burgerprofiel, Green Valley, Qmatic, Smartloket, Routechecker, the association register and UiTdatabank. The challenge was to create one integrated solution that would strengthen both digital services for citizens and internal operations.
The approach
For Hechtel-Eksel local authority, we started from an in-depth preliminary phase that brought together analysis, user insights and administrative objectives. Based on this, we developed a clear navigation structure and a task-oriented website.
Thanks to connections with LPDC/IPDC, UiTdatabank and Mijn Burgerprofiel, among others, information is managed centrally and duplicate input is avoided.
Throughout the project, the focus was on accessibility, SEO, ease of use for both visitors and editors, and sustainable operation after launch. With continuous updates, helpdesk support and the PaddleCONNECT community, the website will continue to evolve over the long term.
The result
With its new website, Hechtel-Eksel local authority now has a sustainable, secure and user-friendly platform that guides residents more quickly to the right information and services. Clear navigation, an accessible structure and a powerful search function improve the visitor experience on every device.
Connections with LPDC/IPDC, UiTdatabank, Mijn Burgerprofiel and external applications, among others, enable centralised management, up-to-date information and less duplicate input.
Editors also save time: non-technical staff can easily manage pages, forms and media, with support for SEO, accessibility and AI. Thanks to updates, security patches, new modules and support, the platform continues to grow with the needs of Hechtel-Eksel.
