Boortmeerbeek is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, centrally located between Leuven and Mechelen. It has more than 13,000 residents and was created from the merger of Boortmeerbeek and Hever in 1977.
The municipality is located in the Dijleland region and combines an urbanised residential function with green and water-rich features such as the Leuven canal and natural areas such as Pikhakendonk.
The challenge
The Municipality of Boortmeerbeek was looking for a new municipal website that would be more user-friendly, more accessible and better structured for residents. There was a need for clear navigation based on top tasks such as making an appointment, accessing the digital desk, reporting an issue, checking opening hours and viewing vacancies. At the same time, the site had to logically bring together a wide range of municipal information, with attention to services, contact details, product pages and integrations with existing government sources.
The approach
We started with a preliminary phase in which we analysed the existing website using Google Analytics, set up an online survey and organised a card-sorting session. Based on that input, we developed a new navigation structure and top-task approach. We then translated the visual identity into a new graphic design and built the site in Paddle CMS, configuring existing modules for opening hours, contact persons, organisational profiles, news, FAQs, product and service pages and web forms. Throughout the project, we guided the Boortmeerbeek team from analysis to launch, including training, content creation and management.
The result
The result is a future-proof municipal website on a central and secure platform, with a clear structure, responsive design and a strong focus on accessibility. The new site supports recognisable top tasks, structured services and centrally managed content such as contact details, opening hours and product information. Thanks to the modular Paddle platform, Boortmeerbeek also has a website that can evolve over time, with ongoing support, monthly updates and a user-friendly management environment for editors.
