The challenge
AZ Jan Portaels was looking for a future-oriented digital platform that needed to be much more than a new website. It was also important for the communications team to have greater freedom in managing the website. As a regional hospital, AZJP manages a large amount of healthcare information for a wide range of target groups: patients, visitors, referrers, healthcare professionals, staff members and other stakeholders. The challenge was to structure all that information in a clear, accessible and multilingual way, so users could quickly and intuitively find the right content.
The bar was set high. The website not only had to be user-friendly and performant for visitors, but also easy for the communications team to manage. AZJP wanted as much autonomy as possible to manage content, pages, subsites, news, events, brochures, forms and redirects itself through a user-friendly CMS.
At the same time, the platform had to meet strict expectations around security, GDPR compliance, accessibility, multilingualism, performance and scalability. This included an intelligent search function, a complex healthcare offering with links between doctors, departments, brochures and treatments, support for multiple languages, strong accessibility features and room for future innovations such as AI, chatbots and new digital applications.
The approach
We started with a clear step-by-step plan
At Paddle.be, we believe that a successful digital project starts with structure. That is why we worked according to a phased approach: from preliminary work and analysis to configuration, content development, launch and continued growth. This method gave the project a clear framework, while also allowing room to adjust where needed.
We built the website around users’ needs
Through analysis, user input, analytics and card-sorting sessions, we mapped what all stakeholders needed. These insights formed the basis for a logical navigation structure, clear wireframes and a user-friendly digital experience.
We did not start from assumptions, but from insights.
We ensured continuity with one fixed point of contact
Throughout the entire process, the client was supported by one project manager. This person monitored the planning, collected feedback, coordinated internally with design and development, and kept the collaboration clear and manageable. This enabled us to respond quickly, keep agreements clear and move the project forward step by step.
We combined the strength of the Paddle CMS with tailor-made solutions
Thanks to the Paddle CMS platform, we were able to start quickly from modules and functionalities that have already proven their value in the healthcare sector. Where needed, we complemented that foundation with specific configurations, integrations or custom development. This allowed us to deliver a solution that was efficient, scalable and tailored to the hospital’s context.
We remained involved after launch
For Paddle.be, a project does not stop at go-live. After launch, we continued to provide support through the helpdesk, monitoring, optimisations and monthly upgrades. This helps keep the website secure, up to date and future-oriented — and enables the client to keep growing with the platform.
The result
Today, AZ Jan Portaels has much more than a renewed website: the hospital now has a future-oriented digital healthcare platform that structures complex healthcare information clearly, guides visitors quickly to the right content and gives the communications team maximum autonomy. With its focus on accessibility, security, multilingualism and scalability, the platform is ready for today’s and tomorrow’s digital needs.
