OPcura as a subsite of Opwijk
How Paddle’s subsite module makes a single municipal platform scalable — while preserving a distinct care identity
OPcura is the welfare association of Opwijk, established by the municipality and the Public Centre for Social Welfare (OCMW). Since 2018, Opcura has operated as an independent organisation with its own board, while the local authority remains closely involved.
With approximately 115 staff and numerous volunteers, Opcura provides comprehensive care for the elderly, both at home and on the care campus.
The digital context
The Municipality of Opwijk wanted a modern, scalable website with a clear structure for various services, projects, and organisations under the same umbrella.
Within this broader ecosystem, OPcura needed its own space, because its target audience, communications approach, and services differ significantly from standard municipal services.
In other words:
- The same technical foundation
- A distinct identity
- Its own navigation and content
- But not a fully separate website detached from Opwijk
This is precisely what Paddle’s subsite module is designed to achieve.
The challenge
OPcura had specific requirements:
- A unique digital identity that reflects their warm care culture
- A subsite that can operate independently but still integrates within Opwijk’s structure
- A platform to communicate their mission, vision, and values
- A solution that simplifies content management for their staff
- A technical foundation managed by Opwijk, avoiding duplicate systems
In short: How do you digitally build a care organisation within a municipal ecosystem without losing its individuality?
The solution: Paddle’s subsite module
The subsite module offered Opwijk and Opcura the perfect balance between a shared technical environment and a separate communications identity.
1. A fully distinct look and feel
Although Opcura sits under Opwijk, the subsite features:
- Its own colour palette
- Its own photography
- Its own tone of voice
- Its own component structure
- Its own navigation
Everything feels 100% Opcura, while remaining technically 100% Opwijk.
2. Shared foundation, separate experience
The subsite module ensures the underlying architecture is shared, covering:
- Hosting
- Security
- Updates
- Modules
- Component library
Yet visitors enter Opcura’s care world as soon as they access the subsite.
3. User-friendly content management for Opcura
Opcura staff work within the same CMS as Opwijk, but benefit from:
- Their own subsite environment
- Access only to relevant modules and pages
- A secure and clear workflow
No duplicate CMS, no fragmentation, no confusion.
4. Scalability for the municipality of Opwijk
For Opwijk, the subsite module allows:
- Multiple organisations or projects to be created as subsites
- Each with its own branding
- Without the need to maintain separate websites
Opcura is one of these subsites, and the model allows growth without complex technical overhead.
5. Accessible structure for residents
Visitors experience:
- A single municipal platform
- With clear entry points
- Redirected to a subsite for more detailed information where necessary
For residents, this means faster navigation, fewer clicks, and greater clarity.
The result
Today, the Opcura subsite is:
- Fully integrated within opwijk.be
- Visually and content-wise an autonomous website
- Consistent with the mission and vision of the care campus
- Simple for Opcura to manage independently
- Clear, welcoming, and accessible for residents and families
- Scalable for future expansions or additional Opwijk subsites
It demonstrates how a single municipal website can host multiple distinct identities.
Summary
Paddle’s subsite module gives Opcura a dedicated digital home within Opwijk’s website.
It combines:
- A shared technical foundation
- A unique brand identity
- Simple content management
- A scalable structure for the entire municipality
An ideal solution for organisations that are connected, yet need to retain their own identity.
