Located in the heart of the Westhoek, Diksmuide combines a rich history with a strong vision for the future. The city is internationally renowned for its role during the First World War, but today it equally positions itself as a dynamic regional centre with a strong focus on public services, digitalisation, tourism and quality of life. The expansive Yser Valley and unique polder landscape also give Diksmuide its distinctive character and appeal.
The challenge
Diksmuide.be
The City of Diksmuide’s website had been online since 2014 and was due for renewal. The new website needed to serve as a digital service desk where people could find answers to their questions. It had to be a clearly structured website providing an overview of the city’s services and reflecting Diksmuide’s mission and vision.
CC Kruispunt.be
Kruispunt Cultural Centre needed a new website that would give much greater prominence to its seasonal programme. It was important to provide an integration with the UiTdatabank so that all activities would flow seamlessly into the website.
Diksmuide Municipal School
Klavertje Vier municipal primary school has four campuses in Diksmuide. A website was needed to bring together information for all four schools in a clear and structured way, with particular attention to the target group of parents of prospective pupils. As with CC Kruispunt, the emphasis could be placed on experience. The request was for an inviting website that retained the local authority’s recognisable visual identity while incorporating playful elements.
UiTinDiksmuide
Previously, uitindiksmuide.be redirected visitors to uitinvlaanderen.be. Diksmuide, however, chose to create its own website, importing activities from UiTinVlaanderen. The homepage needed to make it possible to highlight selected events, while a clearly visible search bar was essential.
Our approach
A single web environment was selected from which the different websites could be managed.
Diksmuide.be
For Diksmuide, the homepage was designed around a large image and a clearly visible search bar. The rest of the homepage was kept intentionally understated to place greater emphasis on the overview of services and on easy navigation and search throughout the website. The navigation structure was developed following a card-sorting session with the various municipal departments.
The site not only reflects the mission and vision of the city administration, but is also accessible, mobile-friendly and fully future-ready.
Kruispunt.be
For Kruispunt Cultural Centre, experience took centre stage. We created a visually appealing website in which the programme plays the leading role. Thanks to an integration with the UiTdatabank, activities are imported automatically and displayed clearly, keeping the site up to date without any additional work for staff. On the homepage, visitors can use a calendar to search for activities by date and view an overview of upcoming events.
Diksmuide Municipal School
The new school website brings together all information from the four campuses of Klavertje Vier primary school in a clear and well-organised way. Parents of current and prospective pupils can quickly find the information they need. The playful design reflects children’s world, while the recognisable visual identity ensures consistency with the city’s wider communications.
UiTinDiksmuide.be
For UiTinDiksmuide, a homepage was created with a search bar that allows visitors to search by keyword, activity date and activity type. Visitors are also shown an overview of upcoming activities and activities highlighted and recommended by the City of Diksmuide. The full activities overview can likewise be filtered easily by date and activity type.
